Northern Soul Lacrosse

Magento - Shopify migration, theme customisation and ongoing support for Northern Soul Lacrosse, one the biggest suppliers of lacrosse equipment outside of North America.

Shopify Case Study - Northern Soul

Introduction

Frustrated with the limitations imposed by their existing Magento solution, Northern Soul sought alternatives and determined that Shopify was the ideal platform to help scale up their business.

Their new Shopify store uses an off-the-shelf theme, customised to align perfectly with the Northern Soul brand. The project also included migration of their extensive product catalog, customers and 5 years of sales data from Magento 1 to Shopify.

Project

Challenges

The UK lacrosse market is a niche but very competitive space. I identified an opportunity to improve the performance over their existing Magento site across both desktop and mobile. I wanted to raise the bar significantly and leave Northern Soul's competitors standing, with a view to giving Northern Soul a competitive edge in both their search marketing efforts and customer experience.

Northern Soul have an established retail outlet and, as an ardent supporter of grassroots lacrosse in the UK, are often vending at lacrosse events across the country. Northern Soul were keen to explore how stock levels could be managed with sales taking place online, in-store and on the road. I integrated Shopify's Point of Sale app, allowing the team to carry out sales across multiple channels, while maintaining accurate stock levels.

Project

Outcomes

Following the launch of their new Shopify store, Northern Soul quickly realised a significant upturn in major KPI's, including increased site traffic and a much improved conversion rate, resulting in higher sales revenues. We have attributed this upturn in part to the performance improvements I was able to deliver, alongside a vastly improved user experience.

Significant improvements have been made to multi-channel sales. Shopify Point of Sale has simplified sales across physical channels, while also enhancing the in-store customer experience, so much so that they recently built the UK's largest lacrosse store having quickly outgrown their old showroom.

Two years after the launch of the site, Northern Soul has experienced significant year-on-year revenue growth, we are looking to continue this trend as we continue to work together on ongoing improvement projects.

An off-the-shelf theme gave Northern Soul a starting point for the new store, customised to align perfectly with the Northern Soul Lacrosse brand.

Improved filters on the product collection pages allow users not only filter by price and brand, but also player level and field position.

A simple yet effective product page with clear CTAs, reducing friction, simplifying the user journey and helping increase conversion rates.
